WEDDING
ON THE PLAINS
This
chapel and reception hall were constructed of recycled materials
for the event and then disassembled. The forms celebrate the union
of the couple through the broad upward gesture of the chapel made
of saplings and the vaulted "cosmos" cover of the reception
area. We made the cover, a Lamella truss, of small pieces of dimension
lumber bolted together to span the forty foot width. The bride departed
her ancestral home, walked under the cover, and joined the
processional to the altar. It was a beautiful fall evening. As the
sun settled on the ceremony the festive lights in the hall illuminated
the reception that followed.
