interest in vernacular forms and culture is most evident in the
origins of this building. Grounded in the rudimentary structures
of the plains Indians this residence captures the essence of dwelling
as the four elements; earth, air, water, and fire drive the design.
Out of the earth emerge three strong horizontal forms. Each are focused on the exterior space at the center of the complex. Spanning between the earth and the sky is a vertical axis housed in a
timber tower that provides cover, light, and natural
ventilation for the communal living area.
