SHOTGUN
HOUSE
This
residential project occupies a corner lot and addresses specific
site relationships with forms and the spaces created between that
outline a courtyard. The two-bedroom house is a long, thin, rectangular
shape sheathed in traditional stucco with flush steel windows
that emphasize the tight skin. The broad south exposure maximizes
solar gain with windows that look into the yard. The house interior
is a shotgun plan, open from end to end, of public space below
and private upstairs. A core sheathed in recycled plastic anchors
the interior and holds the mechanical necessities. Most of the
steel is recycled as well as the cabinets and flooring which we
made from recovered content compressed plastic.
